For the ultimate in accessibility and aesthetics a built-in place ramp is the best option. Ramps that are custom built allow for designs and sizes which are done specific to the site and can blend into a home’s architecture. Custom ramps are typically constructed of wood or concrete, but with more homes using composite materials we have been able to build ramps that are eco-friendly, maintenance-free, and very durable.
There are several problem areas that exist with many homes that Aging-in-Place Remodeling is constantly asked to address. The first problem area tends to be at the front door area where there may be one or two steps up to the landing in front of the door. In most cases we will remove the step(s) and create a continuous walkway from the sidewalk, or driveway, right to the front door. The second problem area tends to be at the door from the garage into the home. Often times there is a step or two from the garage floor into the home and these steps are often, steep, poorly-lit, and lack a handrail. In these cases we will remove the steps and pour a concrete ramp with handrails that provides access for those using a walker or wheelchair. If the garage layout permits, we can place the ramp along the back wall of the garage thereby taking up very little floor space. Please give us a call to schedule a free-in- home consultation on which options will best serve your needs.
